When India and Pakistan decide to end their hostilities, there is one army person in India who is unhappy, because of his son's death in the Indo-Pak war. He decides to launch terror attacks and bring an end to peace, and for this purpose he shoots and gravelly injures an Indian army officer. After the death of this officer, Raghavan then decides to do away with the army officer's daughter, Sanjana, who is studying in hostel. Raghavan and his men descend on the hostel and hold over 100 students hostage. There is only one student who can save them, and his name is Ram, he claims he is a student, but is here on a mission - a mission that when told will reveal his real identity and two plans which he must carry out simultaneously. Laxman Prasad Sharma lives with his mother, Madhu, in a small town in India. He studies in a local college and has a sweetheart in tom-boyish Sanjana Bakshi. The College gets a new student when Ram joins the college. Initially there is considerable friction between Ram and Lakhsman, which soon turns to close friendship. Lakhsman even lets out a room in his house to Ram for rent, and he also introduces him to his mother. Then all hell breaks lose in the college campus when a renegade former Indian army soldier, Raghavan Datta, holds about a 100 students hostage to stop the prisoner swap between India and Pakistan. Raghavan also exposes Ram for what he really is - a fact that Ram had managed to conceal from all the townspeople and the collegians, and an ulterior motive for entering the lives of Lakhsman and Madhu. I had so much fun with movie, it does not take itself seriously, and it's in this point that the fun comes.<br/><br/>the story is a mix of action thriller,with some political intrigue, mixed with goofy romances, beautiful people.It is one huge spoof of 70's and 80's Indian movies, so much of this movie is done tongue in cheek even on the expense of it's super star, Shahrukh Khan(whom I really loved in this movie).This movie is carried on the shoulders of SRK, I can't imagine any other actor that can go from action Hero, to geeky student, to a hopeless romantic with such flair. The music and the dance numbers are Fantastic, and the end credit song is well done.<br/><br/>I loved it so much… pure fun and entertainment. New to the Bollywood genre, I was curious so got this DVD to see what it was all about. In the next several hours I had wept repeatedly, laughed hysterically, wanted to join in dancing, and caught myself with my mouth hanging open more than once in stunned appreciation of the shift between moods on screen. And I was amazed the entire time at what a good time I was having, and spent the rest of the evening humming the songs from it.<br/><br/>This film is really evidence of a completely different mindset and world, and one that I find that I like so much! There was no swearing, no blatant sex, no sneering or nastiness, which I am so tired of; all was color, music, beautiful saris, people of all ages participating, silly support characters, appealing leads, lots of action, and all set against a poignant story line about a peace initiative between the traditional enemies,India and Pakistan. I am SO impressed, and want to see many more of these Indian films from now on. I recommend it!
